The reason I have chosen to provide you with a list of things I like is this: I have done not one thing worth mentioning today. It's 2pm. I have vacuumed and swiffered my apartment, eaten lunch, and watched a romantic movie about choosing love over money. (The movie, by the way, made me bawl.)

So there you have it, today's post is a list of things I like.

Sunday Fun-day?

Today, I give you...Brunch.

Today is the first day of May, a mild 67-ish degrees out, sunny, and...most importantly, Sunday. Brunch day. BF and I figured we'd go for Brunch. First place? 25 minute wait. No thanks. Second place? didn't even bother walking in, thats how crowded it was. Third place! empty table outside...seemed promising...but no dice.

"We have a reservation for that table coming in about 15 minutes", Random restaurant employee informs us.

Oh. Really? because in 15 minutes I can guarantee you'll have at least 2 other available tables.

"We'll be out in 20!" My boyfriend offers some humorous persuasion.
"I can't help you, I'm sorry".

We leave, a little confused, but mostly annoyed. BF works in the same restaurant I do. I was a hostess for a long time. I (as well as BF) have a clear understanding of how restaurants and seatings work. We should have been seated. You never leave an empty table empty.

I live 2 blocks away from the offending restaurant and have wanted to try it for quite some time. Well, don't think I'll be making the effort again anytime soon. Thanks anyway.

We settled on a burger place a few blocks further that had a nice brunch special and open outside tables they were willing to let us to sit at. (how nice of them.)

The bloody mary's were 2 bucks, the food was fresh, and the waitress was pleasant. All in all, it turned into a nice sunday Brunch!

We Wii

In a moment of semi-impulsivity this afternoon, my boyfriend and I decided to go to a video game store and purchase a video game system. As in, each of us bought one. I got a Nintendo Wii, he got an Xbox with a Kinect setup. In the span of about 10 minutes, we managed to spend about a Grand between us. Um...not good. Though we each have the money, neither of us can necessarily afford to spend that much on something so frivolous. My frivolous expenses usually revolve around clothing. I love clothes (hence my overpacked closet I emptied out yesterday) and I love shopping for clothes. Video games are not something I am well versed in nor do they particularly interest me, which is what brings in the semi-impulsivity of the decision.

As a kid, I did own video game systems, but if we're going to be honest (with the exception of maybe my Nintendo64) my father used them much more often than I did. I guess the draw-in of the Wii was Wii Fit. Working out in the comfort of my own living room? Not having to go to the gym to which I've had an unused membership for the past year? Being able to supplement jogging in the park with toning exercises? And, above all else, having something new to occupy my free time?? A Wii seemed like a safe bet. And, I must say, after spending a solid 3 hours toying around with it, I definitely think it was money well spent.

Oh, did I mention that I can stream netflix with my Wii? My roommates and I do not have cable, so being able to watch netflix on a television and not just our computers is going to be very convenient. As I write this I'm watching an episode of Say Yes to the Dress (i'm obsessed).

Blue wii controller
Along with the Wii, I bought a blue controller (very cool compared to the basic black one that came with the Wii system), and as a gift, because I was apprehensive about spending such an exorbitant amount of money, my boyfriend bought me Wii-Fit.

If you own Wii-Fit and you've never hoola-hooped, let me tell you, you're missing out. Sure, you look absolutely, without a doubt ridiculous, but Oh-Em-Gee is it fun. I did it 4 times, trying to beat my high score each time. What a blast. It definitely made my day, and overall, after 33 minutes of workout, I burned 157 calories, and I barely even noticed I was working out.

I'd say that today was a success in regards to occupying my time. 2 productive(ish) days in a row! I'm on a roll!

Goodbye Winter

I live in a small New York City apartment with 2 of my oldest childhood friends. We live in a three bedroom, fifth floor walk up on the Upper West Side, the same neighborhood we all grew up in.
For each perk of living in the City, there is an equally miserable drawback. The one my attention is focused on today is...(drum roll please)...lack of closet space. my hangers are doubled up, my dresses are wrinkled from being cramped so tightly together. And, since it's been winter the whole time we've lived here, (4 months) I have all of my cold weather clothes and not much of my summer wardrobe. The summer clothes are at my parents house. Which means I have to pack up all my winter stuff, lug it on over to my parents place, and exchange it all for summer stuff. Not.Fun.

So un-fun, in fact, that it was clearly a perfect opportunity to sit down and write. And drink coffee. and readjust my curtains. and eat some crackers with hummus. and try on my new swim suit for the fifteenth time. Um...I guess it's time I get started on the closet.

...

10 minutes into the cleaning out of the closet, and i'm being much less picky about what I "might" wear on cool spring days. Usually I have a hard time parting with things, even though technically I'm only parting with them for a season...but how do I know I won't want to wear a black wool sweater in July??? It could happen! Maybe! But i guess, if it does, I can just go get it from my parents house.
And into the bag goes the black wool sweater.

...

2 huge suitcases and an hour and a half later and i'm done! And, may I add, my closet is now color coordinated.

This is the final product (I wish I had taken a "before" photo as well, but...oops, I didn't.)
My newly organized closet

It's a nice feeling to accomplish something that seems daunting. And today was the perfect opportunity for me to get it done.

I work in a restaurant, and have recently switched over to working nights only, as opposed to previously working days only. This leaves me with copious amounts of free time during the day, so while my 2 roommates and most of my other friends are at their 9-5's, I have little to occupy my time with. I'm on week two of this new work schedule, and filling my days with productive activity is proving to be no easy task. So far, I've given myself 3 manicures, watched almost 3 entire seasons of a show called Say Yes to the Dress, and I've gone jogging. A lot. Oh, i've also read samples of about 5 books on my kindle. I have a hard time deciding whether I'll continue to enjoy a book after reading the sample, so more often than not I don't end up purchasing them. I have read the first few chapters of more books than I can even begin to count. I did, however, commit to Tina Fey's book this morning, and shelled out $12.99 for it. Hope it's good.

Well, it seems i've passed a suitable amount of time today. Time to get ready for work.
